Living And Care With Diabetes
Karen, a divorce business consultant, living in Delta, was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at age 55. She has been living a full life – going for walks on the beach, travelling for business and pleasure, and her hobby was painting, particularly teaching young children. She has been able to manage her diabetes with a well balanced diet, regular exercise, and medication. But now at 75 years old, things have been changing.
She is noticing she isn’t as strong as she once was and her energy is less. She had to stop her painting classes as she doesn’t have the energy right now to prepare and conduct them. Karen struggles with diabetic neuropathy. She has some sores on her feet and near her ankle for the past 3 months. They should be healing faster but she is struggling to change the bandages often.
Karen is a typical client dealing with diabetes at Happiness at Home Health care. With some support, Karen has regained some strength and energy, and her wounds are almost healed. At 2 hours per day, 4 times a week, she is on the road to a more balanced lifestyle. She is more comfortable walking again and has lost 10 lbs as she is more active. She is eager to return to painting very soon.
